A Monticello Miscellany

Drawn from archives at the University of Virginia and Monticello, this program reveals the taste of Thomas Jefferson: the music which he and his family played for their domestic entertainment. In his youth, Jefferson practiced the violin three hours a day, but he loved all genres of music: "all that was good of its kind."

Mr. Jefferson's Musicians recreate the domestic entertainment enjoyed by Thomas Jefferson and his wife, daughters, and grandchildren at Monticello. An avid violinist and collector of musical prints and manuscripts, he attended concerts wherever he went, be it New York, Philadelphia, Paris or London, and encouraged his family to play instruments.

Sarah Pillow, soprano
David Sariti, violin
Daniel Swenberg, guitar
John Austin Clark, harpsichord
Mary Anne Ballard, viola da gamba
