Alessandro Scarlatti is best known today as a Neapolitan opera composer, and his son Domenico for his prodigious output of keyboard sonatas; however, both composed a large body of remarkable vocal and choral music.  The Scarlatti's original approach to sacred music is a synthesis of the stile antico ('old style'), the modern dramatic and virtuosic concertante syle and the Venetian polychoral style.  The program will include Alessandro's Exultate Deo, Messa breve e concertata a cinque voce, selections from the recently discovered Vespro della Beata Vergine along with Domenico's Te Deum, Iste confessor and his famous Stabat Mater.
