L'Ange Diabolique/Diabolical Angel, the Unrepentant Pardessus.Tina Chancey group

Created to maintain the status quo, the pardessus de viole proceeded to shatter it. While its given repertoire was placid and well-mannered, something like that of an aristocratic milk-maid, privately, players borrowed some of the most dramatic, dissolute music of the age by Forqueray, L'Abbé le Fils, Leclair and Guignon.

Tina Chancey is director of HESPERUS. Her particular specialty is the 18th century pardessus de viole; she has presented debut concerts at Carnegie Recital Hall and the Kennedy Center, and has released five pardessus recordings, most recently Fêtes Galantes. Tina directed an International Pardessus Conference at the 2017 Boston Early Music Festival. Her current project is a disc of Marais & Forqueray.
