Intro to Early Music Improv with Tina Chancey

Tina Chancey is offering a 5-session, on-line introductory course on Early Music Improvisation throughout the summer. It's designed to help you get comfortable with the process of improvisation. You'll learn the practice of active listening, how to remember what you hear, and how to use SHMRG (Sound, Harmony, Melody, Rhythm and Growth) to understand and describe what happens in music. Sessions on medieval, Renaissance, and baroque music isolate the specific elements of each musical style. Improvisation is a combination of what you know, what you hear, and what you have to say. In this course you'll get better at all three.
