This program features the 2008 winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Music, David Lang’s Little Match Girl Passion, which draws inspiration from Bach’s St. Matthew Passion to share Hans Christian Andersen’s poignant secular tale in heart-rending fashion. We perform this masterpiece alongside late-Renaissance English anthems and works from the 20th and 21st centuries including excerpts of Herbert Howells’ Requiem. All together, these works powerfully portray the perspectives of children and those who care for them.
