Skeletons of the Opera
Elliot Figg and Caitlyn Koester ~ harpsichord
Famously described as “two skeletons [being amorous] on a tin roof”, the harpsichord has at times been undersold for its dramatic capabilities. Koester & Figg tell another tale… keyboard opera transcriptions begin alongside the earliest operas. Baroque opera finds a continuous history with modern historically-informed transcriptions. Koester & Figg blend historical transcriptions with their own for a program that moves the skeletons from the rooftop into the opera house.
Harpsichordists Elliot Figg and Caitlyn Koester met in New York City in 2019. Sharing a love of opera scores, double-continuo, and modern arrangements of historical music, they strive to show audiences what excites them about the sonic possibilities of their instrument. After much time spent workshopping their individual projects together, they made their duo debut in 2023 with concerts through GEMS and Berkshire Bach Society.
