Violas! A Rose by any other Name
Dan McCarthy ~ viola, tenor viola, viola d’amore
Nicholas Canzano ~ harpsichord
There are many “Violas” in the Baroque era. Yet sadly for a host of reasons they are not often played and the true variety of the era is not represented. Music for tenor violas is mistakenly played on smaller altos and inferior muted violins play music meant for the viola d’amore. Come and see what historical performance could be!
Multi-instrumentalist Dan McCarthy is sought after as an expert performer of instruments that are sadly and conspicuously absent from the field of historical performance in the United States. He has been featured on the tenor viola and viola d’amore with Washington Bach Consort, Yale Institute of Sacred Music, Clarion Music Society, ARTEK, Bethlehem Bach, Bach Vespers, and many other ensembles.
