Classical and early Romantic string quintets are a staple of the period’s repertoire, highlighting affective and compositional prowess with five voices. However, they are more often heard in the realm of modern performance, and not in their original historical sound world. With the five members of Euterpe Quartet — or, shall we say Euterpe Quintet! — stunning music by Mozart and Beethoven is brought to life with the pitch and instruments they would have expected and imagined.
Euterpe Quartet strives to share energetic and intimate interpretations of repertoire spanning the 17th century to the present. Formed in 2024 and driven by scholarly rigor, technical mastery, and — most importantly — human connection, the period-instrument ensemble takes its name from the Greek goddess and muse of lyric poetry and music. The quartet most recently studied and performed as the Baroque and Classical Academy Quartet for the renowned Carmel Bach Festival in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.
