SUMMARY:Lusitano Rediscovered
DESCRIPTION:The Sacred Music of Vicente Lusitano\nJoin GEMS’ Open Gates Project for a landmark performance celebrating the music of 16th-century Portuguese composer Vicente Lusitano (fl. mid-16th century)\, one of the earliest known Black composers in Europe. Long overlooked in the history of Western classical music\, Lusitano’s remarkable choral music invites rediscovery and renewed appreciation. Under the direction of distinguished British conductor and leading Lusitano authority Joseph McHardy\, with the creative guidance of OGP Creative Consultant Biraj Bakakarty\, this program offers a rare opportunity to experience Lusitano’s music anew and place it within the rich\, diverse history of Renaissance music.
