ONLINE ~ Music Before 1800 presents Vox Luminis
A German Baroque Requiem
Brahms loved the Lutheran church music of the late Renaissance and Baroque. Many of the Biblical texts he chose for his Deutsches Requiem had already been set by these composers. The heralded Belgian ensemble Vox Luminis has explored this repertoire for 20 years and presents a new companion piece by Lionel Meunier to Brahms’ classic work. The piece is a Baroque meditation on mortality and faith that pays homage to the master while presenting a very different German Requiem — one animated by the emotions of the Lutheran Baroque.
