Kammermusik for Abendmusik

Abendmusik (German for "evening music", plural Abendmusiken) is an evening concert, usually performed in a church. Specifically, this designation refers to a series of performances at the St. Mary's Church, Lübeck (Marienkirche), Germany, begun in the 17th century and lasting until 1810.

New York’s period instrument string band Abendmusik recreates “Abendmusik” presenting chamber music that would have been heard in this concert series and popular in 17th century Germany. The program will feature works by Johann Pachebel, Johann Caspar Kerll, Ignaz Rupert Mayr, David Funck, Johann Michael Nicolai, and others.

The members of Abendmusik: Judson Griffin, Malgorzata Zienmnicka, violins; Patricia Ann Neely, Carlene Stober, violas da gamba will be joined by Adam Young, finalist in the 2018 Bach/Abel Viola da gamba Competition – Köthen for an evening of chamber music with rich harmonies, surprising textures, and spirited displays of virtuosity.
