The Arne Project

Queens ConsortThe Queens Consort are embarking upon a lecture/concert series program entitled "The Arne Project" in which they are collaborating with and bringing down a guest from Memorial University in Newfoundland. Their guest is a musicologist and Arne scholar who has spent years traveling back and forth to the British Library to collect and reconstruct little-known works by Thomas Arne. Last year, they presented one work provided to us by their guest entitled "The Spring" Cantata, and they gave its North American and New York premiere in the spring of 2016. This season they will present this and other works of a similar scope with the aid of their guest, who will also give a lecture along with the concert.

The Queens Consort is a professional early music instrument ensemble in New York City. While they perform in the borough of Manhattan, they consider themselves the first period instrument ensemble based in and for the borough of Queens. The group plays on period instruments and in baroque style. While The Queens Consort performs a wide variety of repertoire spanning many countries and time periods, they have a particular fondness for music of the Venetian baroque. The Queens Consort is a fiscal project of Gotham Early Music Scene ("GEMS"). They will embark on their third performance season with two season opening concerts in Queens - at King Manor on October 21 and in Jackson Heights on October 22, 2017.
