ALBA Consort

Looking East, Looking West: The Journey of a Troubadour.

ALBA retraces the routes of Mediterranean music. Just as Galecian composer Martim Codex was compelled to journey to the south of Iberia in search of Arabic mysticism, ALBA explores the melodies and poetry from Al Andalus to southern France, across the waters to the port city of Venice and beyond.

ALBA Consort performs early Mediterranean music: songs, compelling dances and virtuosic improvisations - with oud, lute, vielle, voice and percussion and has performed at University of Chicago Presents, UC’s Oriental Institute, NY’s Barge Music, Early Music Now in Milwaukee, Academy of Early Music, Michigan, and for GEMS Midtown Concerts.

Margo Andrea, mezzo soprano, vielle
Carlo Valte, oud
Rex Benincasa, voice, percussion, psaltery, hurdy gurdy
Arash Noori, Lute, baroque guitar
