Email Newsletter to GEMS Audience List

Our semi-monthly email newsletter, Notes on the Scene, is devoted to early music events in and around New York City and related news. It is emailed on the first, third, and fifth (when applicable) Thursdays of every month to an "opt-in" list of over 8,300 subscribers.

You can purchase a listing, which includes:

  • basic information about your event
  • a thumbnail photo
  • a link to your website for more information
  • a listing in the "Events Calendar” on our website with a link to your website or event page.

If you do not have a website or a page with detailed information about your event, you can also purchase a full page on the GEMS website devoted to your event or season. This includes:

  • one or two full-size photos
  • event details and program notes
  • a link to your event on Google Maps with nearby restaurants

Events we consider to be of unusual interest or exceptional quality will be given more prominence in a "Featured Events" section; inclusion in this section is an editorial decision. The newsletter will also include general news about early music in NYC and about GEMS.

Submission deadline is one week before the scheduled launch date.

To order a listing in the Notes on the Scene Newsletter

1. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the information about your event (this goes to 'media' at gemsny.org). Please include the following as text -- either in the body of the email, or attached as a Microsoft Word document or similar. Please do not send a .pdf file. A text press release is fine.

  • Ensemble/Artist Name
  • Program name, plus any additional tag line or rubric
  • 60 word description
  • Date(s) and Time(s), including any pre-concert event such as lecture, and post-concert event such as reception
  • Location, with complete street address
  • Ticket price range
  • Places where tickets may be obtained, including online URLs, box office, telephone, at the door, etc.
  • Your contact information, including URL of your website (if available), your name and telephone number
  • ATTACH one or two photos or graphics (format: .jpg) we may include in the newsletter (these may be of any size or resolution). IMPORTANT: photo or graphic should include little or no text. Image will be too small to read most text.

BE SURE to include, for original works of art, the artist's name and location of the work. For photographs, please include the photographer's name. GEMS values the work of visual artists as well as musicians, and we wish to give proper credit where due.

Please include the following when you order a full web page in addition to the listing:

  • One or two paragraphs describing your event
  • Names of participating artists (if available)
  • Pieces to be performed (if available)
  • An additional photo or graphic

2. Please indicate when you want your submission included in the newsletter (NOTE: they go out on the FIRST & THIRD Thursday of each month). If you only purchase one submission, we will list your event in our reminders section "Other Upcoming Events" in any subsequent newsletters, if applicable. If you wish to have your event included IN FULL in more than one newsletter, you must purchase multiple submissions.

3. Our fee is $75 - $200 ($125-$335 including detailed event web page) per submission, based on the size of your organization's annual budget. Charge it securely to a credit card.
