Music of Many Worlds: Sephardic Vocal Music of 18th-century Amsterdam
Hear the music of Amsterdam’s Sephardic synagogue at America’s oldest Jewish congregation, founded in New Amsterdam in 1654. This unique and stunning repertoire features Hebrew texts set in a classical operatic style. The program highlights the historical and cultural conditions that brought together many worlds — ancient and modern, divine and secular — mediated by the Sephardic community’s Iberian past and integration into a Dutch identity. Ensemble features countertenors James M. Brown and Jack Lindberg, violins, cello, and harpsichord.
