Description

poliuto trio sqCarolina Uccelli's Anna di Resburgo

Teatro Nuovo presents bel canto classics and rarities with a period instrument orchestra and a performing style The Wall Street Journal calls “transformative.” Carolina Uccelli was unique: the only female opera composer to reach a major theater in Italy's bel canto era. Her promising talent had strong supporters, Gioachino Rossini among them. But Anna di Resburgo was overshadowed by the premiere of Lucia di Lammermoor just a month earlier in the same city (Naples), and Uccelli's theatrical career did not take flight. Thanks to the survival of just one manuscript copy, her music can speak for itself in the 21st century. The opera is a stirring Romantic thriller ready to join the world's repertory.
