In this new program, Marginalia explores the instrumental and vocal repertoire preserved in the Chansonnier du Roi, an important source for French music of the thirteenth century. Included are songs by troubadour Bernart de Ventadorn and trouvere Gace Brulé, as well as the estampie royals and other instrumental dances.

Marginalia is an ensemble of early music specialists dedicated to the performance of the rich, varied, and often virtuosic repertoire of medieval instrumental music. The ensemble uses medieval bagpipe, vielle, hurdy gurdy, medieval harp, percussion, and other instruments to recreate the music of medieval minstrels and dance musicians as it could have sounded.
